Deptford says no to Tidemill becoming an academy

Another letter asking for transparency from parents

Dear Keith Geary, Chair of Governors,

I am disappointed that the governing body voted on Wednesday 4th May for Academy status again.

Firstly, the school has still not produced any detailed information about why the governors withdrew from their first application. Could you please inform me of their reasons?

Secondly, the school has not made it clear why they are applying again. The Department for Education guidance to schools wishing to convert to academy status makes it clear in the Academies Act 2010 that the school is required to carry out a consultation on the conversion process with appropriate stakeholders before entering into a Funding Agreement with Secretary of State. I would like the school to re-consult with parents and the community about the proposal by holding a meeting to explain exactly what has happened and why it is applying again.

Finally, I believe parents and the community have not been adequately consulted, all stakeholders should be provided with an opportunity to comment on the proposal.  I would like to know what steps the school is taking to gather our views.

Tidemill is a really good school and I have not been convinced that becoming an academy will bring benefits.

I look forward to your reply.

Yours sincerely,
